Official synopsis
February 1974. Because she accidentally gets pregnant, Annie, a worker and mother of two children, meets the MLAC – Movement for the Freedom of Abortion and Contraception – which practices illegal abortions in the eyes of all. Welcomed by this unique group, which is based on concrete help for women and the sharing of knowledge, she finds a new meaning to her life through the battle for the abortion law.
The programmer’s eye
Incarnated by a determined Laure Calamy, “Angry Annie” bears the name of its fictitious heroine who becomes gradually engaged in the fight for abortion. Yet, the film constantly recalls the collective dimension of her struggles and makes us feel like all the other women from the MLAC share the same name. In line with militant films (“Histoires d'A”, “Regarde, elle a les yeux grands ouverts”), Blandine Lenoir details the appropriation of the vacuum aspiration, and finely questions the links with the medical world, recalling the importance of the transmission of speech and gesture. “Angry Annie” celebrates pedagogy, without didacticism.
