Official synopsis
"'Cow' invites us to take a different look at cows, to get closer to them, to contemplate their beauty but also the reality of their life without embellishment. This is the story of a reality, that of a dairy cow, and a tribute to the immense service it gives us. When I look at Luma, our cow, it is our world that I see through her." Andrea Arnold
The programmer’s eye
With a camera placed on its nose, the sound captured at the level of the bowls and far from human voices, harassing flies around the eyelids, then the depth of Luma’s eye, cow-main character of Andrea Arnold's latest film, an active filmer who seems to manage to capture a bovine’s subjectivity. It’s a destabilizing experience to feel so close to a ruminant! “Cow”, in filming the grueling physical fate of a dairy cow, doesn’t tell us so much about man's cruel hold over animals as it does about the dismal closeness of our conditions. — Pierre Guidez
