The programmer’s eye
Presented in the Out of Competition section at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, “How to Talk to Girls at Parties” follows the trajectory of previous works by John Cameron Mitchell, in which desire and the pursuit of pleasure are central. Through the presence of extraterrestrial Amazons, unknown sexuality takes shape and leads the protagonists on the path of their desire and first emotions. John Cameron Mitchell doesn’t confine himself to the genres of science fiction, comedy or teen movie; he prefers blurring boundaries and draws a mystical-erotic tribute to English pop culture from the 70s.
