Official synopsis
In the heat of the summer, two watchmen secure the river that runs through a neighborhood in Lausanne. Ammar is new to the job, and Daniel shares his experience with him. During their rounds and encounters with the inhabitants, they observe and are observed, while bonds are being formed. And the question arises: what possibly happened by the river?

Through the ability its staging offers in representing different ways of occupying space, “Like an island” makes its two main characters endearing participants in a giant hide-and-seek. Their art of delimitation and their burlesque rounds are happily thwarted by inhabitants whose past, habits, ties and stories draw up an alternative and sensitive cartography of places. By enjoying their budding friendship and the dreamlike rustles of their environment, the two security guards gradually find their place in this rebel coexistence.
