Official synopsis

Inspired by the twin towers of the World Trade Center, the Mercuriales are the remains of a failed building project in the 70's. The Mercuriales serve here as a starting point for a story that spans from documentary analysis to science fiction to mythology to cosmological beliefs. The ghostly suburbs, filmed in 16mm, show all the genius of the young but already impressive cinema of Virgil Vernier.

Biography and Filmography

Since 2001, Virgil Vernier's films have mixed fiction, documentary and mythology. Among them are “Thermidor” (2009), “Pandore” (2010), “Orléans” (2012), “Mercuriales” (2014) and “Sophia Antipolis” (2018). His films have been selected at numerous international festivals including Cannes, Locarno and Berlin.
