The Soiled Doves of Tijuana
by Jean-Charles Hue
World Premiere
Out of Competition 2022
Official synopsis
I’ve been going to Tijuana regularly for more than 15 years now and every time I go, I come across the ghostly silhouettes of the women who haunt this place. I call them “white ladies”.
The programmer’s eye
A breathtaking sense of graphics imbues the new film by Jean-Charles Hue; a religious power completes it and halos each of its characters, as if to dezone them. At the crossroads of these two abstractions, physics dominates – in the streets of Tijuana, women are shown in all the reality of their body and condition, under the influence of precariousness and addictions. Because it is attentive, a cardinal virtue of his cinema, the filmmaker's staging activates the project contained in the writing: infusing faith in the street.
